Summer is over, but the learning doesn't have to stop. Autumn is even better for it: the evenings are longer, the pace is slower, and there are so many colors around that you want to create something. We put together six activities where every one of us starts from scratch. No experience needed, just a little time and the will to give it a try.
Junk journaling
It's a mix of scrapbooking and keeping a diary. You glue everything autumn leaves behind into a notebook: tickets, wrappers, receipts, dried leaves. The result is a physical archive of memories that's fun to flip through a year later. No art skills needed, just don't be afraid of messy pages. All you need to start is a regular notebook, some glue and a box for your little treasures.
Solo café quest
Not just grabbing a coffee, but turning it into a hobby. Set yourself a goal to visit every local café in town, try the seasonal drinks and rate the atmosphere. Keep your own ranking in your notes app or in that same junk journal. Autumn, a latte and a good book: a formula that never fails.
Your own autumn scent
Dried oranges, cloves, cinnamon, lavender. Mix them, put them in a bowl or a small pouch, and your home smells like autumn. It's surprisingly simple, and the result makes you happy every day. You can dry oranges in the oven at a low temperature in a few hours, then play with the proportions until you find your scent.
A patchwork quilt
Autumn is the perfect time to stitch warm fabric scraps into something whole. It's a long, meditative project that takes its time. Start with a small pillow or a rug and move on to a quilt later. The result stays with you for years and reminds you of all the evenings you put into it.
Nordic walking
Autumn weather is ideal for it: not too hot, fresh air, leaves rustling underfoot. Grab your poles and head out of town or to a park. It looks a bit funny, but it works seriously: your whole body gets a workout while your mind takes a break from screens.
Chasing the sun
Autumn has the most beautiful light. The hobby is catching sunsets in different spots around the city or beyond it. You look for new locations, take photos, walk and simply watch. Photos, a walk and peace of mind, all in one.
Start with one item
There's no need to try everything at once. Pick the one that speaks to you most and give it a go this week. And if something on this list is already your hobby, tell us about it: we'd love to know how you spend your autumn.
